What is a better bike mongoose tyax or kona shred?

I am looking to buy a mountain bike and I like these two but I don't know what one is better?

I am looking for a 26 inch mountain bike with front suspension for about $600 to $800.

AND I NEED HELP!!!!

The kona is better. But it's a dirt jumping bike.

ANd double the price of the ($299) Tyax.

Do you want an all around montain bike? That Mongoos Tyax looks OK but Mongoose has been loosing thir reputatin on bikes under $1,000..maybe just my oopinion.  But for $299 its not bad.

Are you buying locally at a bike shop or online?

If locally - buy what you like in your local shop.

They can give good advice and service...maybe worth a little extra money.

If buying online see below - and don't forget that fit is very important and you may have to spend $30 on a new stem....from an online bike.

but at a minimum for an above $500 bike - look for disc brakes, and name brand shock - MArzocchi - MAnitou - Rock SHox. ANd good stand over height is nice too ...a sloping top tube or some are curveed.
