What is a better combination for a 2 dog house?

I have a female puppy and at some point will have her spayed. I will also be getting her a pal in the form of another dog/puppy at some point in her first 2 years. My question is this:

Would a spayed adult/young adult dog get along better with another female or with a male? The 2nd dog will be 6 months or under in age and may not yet be altered (spayed/neutered).

you could have either

but male is best. females get on with both sexes,

its only males that done get on with other males

I think a male I had a female and got a male and they get along great.
