I mean besides the obvious reasons... The NYPD is a more dangerous job... The mail carrier route I get may be redundant...

Taking everything into consideration... PAY... Retirement BENEFITS... AGE YOU GET TO RETIRE AT...

What would you say is the better overall job?

  1. there both good jobs

  2. working for any public municipality has it ups and downs.  The pay for both positions is relatively good (it will be better at the post office initially than a rookie cop).  The benefits (medical, dental, retirement plans) are about the same.  You would not be eligible for disability if you are a Federal Employee.  You would be eligible if you were a cop.  You'll be less stressed at the post office, however don't forget where the term "going postal" came from!  The best overall job - do something you love - no matter what it is or what the pay.  These two jobs are so different it is easy to assume there are other considerations dictating you choices for a career.  Do what you want to do, you'll be happier!

  3. Post office.  Pay is terrific. They get off EVERY holiday and every Sunday and probably birthdays, etc. ALL PAID.. They are federal govt.. so they will have more benefits in regards to vacations, retirement, etc. With NYPD, you have to go thru basically basic training classes, with PO you just have to take a test..
