  1. Pro tools...Reason is too d**n difficult.  But Pro tools sucks at midi.

  2. Neither! Ergh.

If you have a mac, which is the better choice for recording, i'd use Abelton.

Super user friendly, and is compatible with almost any interface.

  3. Actually I think you might be confused between the two.

Pro Tools is recording software, while Reason is virtual synth software with a sequencer (very basic recorder).

You use the two together, not independently.  There is a thing in Reason called Re-Wire, which makes it compatible with all the major recording softwares such as Pro Tools, Cubase, Tracktion, etc.  Basically you record a something with Reason in the sequencer, then have that show up in your actually recording software like Pro Tools, to combine with things you've recorded such as vocals, guitar, etc.

Although there are ways to get a guitar, mic, etc. to record in Reason using the sequencer, it wasn't built for it.  The editing is minimal, and there are no filters for such things as vocal tracks as there is in any real recording software.

So if you are just looking to record Pro Tools.  But I'd recommend Cubase or Tracktion over Pro Tools, just because Pro Tools is awesome but it takes a lot of $ to say any of the real perks.
