  1. I think if you only have one student who needs help you would have a paraeducator to come in and help the student. But if you have a lot of students who are ESL then you really need a bilingual classroom.

I am in Race and Ethics this semester and am learning a lot about other cultures. One thing I have learned is that the Spanish population is growing, the Caucasian population is actual shrinking, Native American is staying the same, and Asian and Black are growing a little. But the Spanish population is growing the most. By 2045 the United States is going to be very diverse. By then our nation may be more Bilingual anyway.

  2. The class is instructed in two different languages. In the US this usually means English and Spanish, therefore a bilingual teacher must know both languages. Most of the students in a bilingual class will probably speak Spanish, but there can be monolingual English speaking students in a bilingual classroom.

You have to make sure both sets of students understand instructions, lectures, etc; by translating, using visuals, or other methods. The goal of a bilingual class is to teach students English while maintaining the use of their heritage language.

  3. Bi means 2, lingual means language.  Thus, the classroom uses 2 languages instead of the traditional one language situation.
