A black hole is a star that has burned out its source of hydrogen but has enough mass that it collapses in upon it self tearing a hole in space time.  It forms a funnel at the end of which is a singularity, a point at which all matter and light is crushed under such tremendous force that it becomes a single point.  It is believed if you connect two black holes before they reach the singularity you can form a worm hole.

This is much more of a science, astronomy question than an anthropology question.
