There is no such thing as a Blu-Ray DVD. Blu Ray isn't a DVD.

The only DVDs are :

DVD and HD DVD (don't worry about the latter).

Blu-Ray aka BD, is a next gen optical disc format, which can output at 1080p (good for Full High Definition TV's - such as the Bravia). It also has 8.0 DTS Master Audio which basically is uncompressed audio like in the cinemas and if you have a good speaker setup you can tell the difference.

First, it isn't a DVD. It's a Blu-ray disk. You can't play Blu-ray disks on a normal DVD player (although Blu-ray players can play DVDs)

Its the same size as and looks like a DVD but can contains much more information (25 or 50 GB), allowing playback of 1080p video and high quality sound. It is called Blu-ray partially because it uses a "blue" laser (rather than the red used for DVDs). Video resolution is up to 2.6x that of DVD, making for finer detail in images. See the link for an example (high speed connection recommended).

To benefit you must, at an absolute minimum, have an HDTV (and optimally a  moderate to large 1080p model, with HDMI inputs, and a good surround sound system)

Blu-ray is a premium priced alternative to DVD which may or may not eventually replace it.

Prices of players start at about $350 and disks cost $5 to $20 more than DVDs of the same movie. Prices may eventually fall, but are unlikely to reach DVD levels.

it is use for high definition video and data storage, its kind of like a regular dvd but can hold  up to 25gb instead of 4gb,

Blu-ray is just an alternative to the predecesor dvd it has high defenition quality and can take more space hence the reason for iit being able to have such high quality.
