  1. a palomino is not a thoroughbred.  i can tell you that one right away...here's the wiki on thoroughbreds...

  2. Thoroughbreds and Warmbloods are breeds of horses. The Thoroughbred originated in areas around England, and was honed for racing and fox-hunting, etc., those kind of events. The Europeans at the time crossed strong, sturdy European running horses, with the sleek, endurance-strong Arabian to finally result in their first crop of "Thoroughbreds" which eventually became the breed it is today. They are the horses which you see running in the Kentucky Derby, and most other horses races (though Quarter Horses are not uncommon, they run shorter races, and compete in different fields). The Warmblood is similar, but heavier boned, and sturdier in build when you look at them. There are different types of Warmbloods, from the Belgian Warmblood to the Dutch Warmblood. Most are phenominal jumpers (as are most Thoroughbreds), and tend to be good at dressage and other flexible sports. Both are tall, well-rounded breeds, sturdy and dependable, though with their own individuality.

No purebred Thoroughbred can be palomino. As a breed, the creme gene has not been inducted into their lines, and therefore is non-existant when dealing with pure Thoroughbreds. Is this horse a reddish gold? If that is the case, you might have a chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, instead of a palomino (a picture would help). The classification can be difficult to make, and many owners/breeders tend to confuse the too, especially if they are unfamiliar with the genetics/parentage/lineage involved. But by breed standard, no, a Thoroughbred cannot be palomino.

If you want more info on breed standards and color info, just e-mail/message me :) It's a hobby of mine, lol.

  3. There are what they call 3 types of horses:

Hot Bloods:  Arabian and Thoroughbred to name the first two that come off the top of my head.  Of course the Thoroughbreds can trace themselves back to 3 foundation horses, the Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian and the Byerly Turk.

Cold Bloods:  Draft Horses like the Shire, Clydesdale, Percheron, Belgium...   These were used first as the warhorses during the middle ages to the crusades, then as heavy pulling/draft animals who with their masters helped till the soil and conquer America.

Warm Bloods:  Are named so because at one point they were crosses of Draft and Hot bloods.

Palomino is a colour.  The horse you're looking at though is probably a thoroughbred cross.  I had a friend who had an appendix Quarter Horse who's sire was a buckskin AQHA stallion and his dam was a chestnut (sorrel) Thoroughbred mare.  As a matter of fact, I own one of that palomino stallion's grand daughters and she's a palomino!

Warm bloods typically have a heavier bone structure than a thoroughbred and are bigger bodied.

I hope I have helped you understand the differences.

  4. sorry off the topic but does royce and his wife know you are using his photo for an avitar?i am sure katie would mind.royce ford is a prca bareback rider  but i cant get a big enough view of your avitar,or is that ty murray.

  5. For the record, Palomino is a color, not a breed, and yes, contrary to what the first person said, there are Palomino Thoroughbreds, it is just very rare.

  6. Thoroughbreds are a "blooded horse" strict breeding records have been recorded to keep parentage known for a few hundred years. Only registered Thoroughbreds may be bred to Thoroughbreds, verified by blood in the old days and now DNA.Check www.jockeyclub.com. Warmbloods are a mixture of the best breeds. As the mixture of Anglo-Arab,Trotter,Throroughbred and Native Horses.Warmbloods were once used as Military horses.A good mover that covered ground fast ,calm and generous and with elegance. The French Performance Horse is one such breed.Alme the finest stallion of French Warmbloods by Ibrahim and out of Girondine by Ultimate was one of the greatest producer's of champion jumpers. Thoroughbreds  and  Warmbloods are wonderful for show and jumping but only Thoroughbreds can race.Your Palomino is color breed not a thoroughbred.Colors for Thoroughbreds are.Bay(shades of brown),roan(mixed chestnut hairs)Black(muzzle must be black with black legs mane and tail)Chestnut(shades of red, bright to dark)and Grey. Palomino color would be very, very rare for a TB

  7. To all the other answers a THOROUGHBRED CAN BE PALOMINO. It is very rare but here is proof:

    http://equine.com/horses/search_results....

Palomino is a color AND a breed.

Say you have a registered palomino Quarter horse, you can also register it with the Palomino Horse Assoc.

  8. A thoroughbred is one of the most basic breeds there is (aside from the Arabian). A warmblood is another breed. No, a palomino you want to buy cannot be a thoroughbred, since they cannot have spots or a palomino coat. If you don't know what these breeds are, they are very basic and you should definately NOT buy a horse until you learn MUCH more about them. Take riding lessons, then ask your trainer if they think youre ready for a horse. Don't buy one until they reccomend it. Before you get a horse, you need to know what these are and how to do them: feeding, grooming, mucking, riding, lunging, etc. There is ONE website with painted/palomino Thoroughbreds, though I don't believe they can be registered because they are not supposed to be these colors. Plus, there's probably a Paint somwhere in their bloodlines:
