  1. I believe it is a berry............

  2. The caper (Capparis spinosa L.) is a perennial spiny shrub that bears rounded, fleshy leaves and big white to pinkish-white flowers. A caper is also the pickled bud of this plant. The bush is native to the Mediterranean region, growing wild on walls or in rocky coastal areas throughout. The plant is best known for the edible bud and fruit (caper berry) which are usually consumed pickled. Other species of Capparis are also picked along with C. spinosa for their buds or fruits.

  3. It is a berry.

  4. Hi

the caper comes from a bush found in the Med called

    Capparis spinosa

The bud, when picked is normally salted or pickled and used for cooking.

  5. Capers come from a plant native to the Mediterranean. They're actually little buds that are picked, sun dried and pickled in a vinegar brine

in other words a pickled berry

  6. John Carlo is right on....it is an unopened flower bud ....if you live where greasewood  {Chapparal } grows you can make your on...just pick the buds before they open & put in vinegar water...much cheaper than store prices.

  7. none of the above. It's the flower bud of a Mediterranean bush. Related to a cabbage, but looks more like a rose.

They are picked in the morning, before they open, then dried and pickled. If fresh, they're not so good, but pickled they are fantastic.
