  1. Captain's practice is basically just a practice without the coach. It typically includes only the varsity players, and is run by the team captains. However, we had captain's practice last week, and we all just took turns deciding what drills and conditioning to do.

  2. Captain's practices usually refer to 'optional' practices that are organized and run by the team captains, as opposed to the coach.

A lot of times, captains practices are held because a team is not allowed to hold an official practice (i.e., with a coach present) until a certain date.

So for example, if your league has a rule that teams can't officially start practice until next week, you may have captain's practices all this week and you won't really be breaking the rules because there is no coach present.
