  1. No such animal...Every make of vehicle has been involved in mishaps that have resulted in death and injury...I heard a report on the radio about some people who were trapped in a car because the fire dept. didn't have the right tools to get them out...The vehicle was a new one and was constructed with the latest "safety" features similar to those used in race cars...The Jaws of Life were ineffective...If someone is cut badly, they could bleed to death before being receiving care.

The only true safety feature on any vehicle is the driver...And there is nothing being done to improve the performance of that component.

  2. volvo

    mercury

    newer hondas

  3. Mercedes...even an old one will be safer than a Volvo...........

Safety: These cars are not built out of fiberglass! If you are killed in a Mercedes, you had a pretty bad wreck. I have personally seen one of these cars that had been rolled, hit front & rear, and totally looked destroyed. All four doors would still open and close, and the passenger compartment was little damaged. The passengers (3 of them) were not harmed in the accident....................

  4. I have never owned a Volvo or a Mercedes (and I never will) but the safest car I've ever had was my old Saturn SL1.

Great car...lasted a long time...I bought it when they first came out.

I now drive a Ford Explorer...which recently protected me in what was a high velocity collision...I walked away from it, uninjured except for a few friction burns from the airbags.

However, I agree with the previous poster...a car is only as safe as it's driver. Buying a "safe car" does not exclude the owner from learning how to drive the d**n thing. First you learn to drive...THEN you buy your "safe car".

  7. Volvo

makes the safest cars on the road.

The Volvo S80 luxury sedan was awarded the highest rating for crash worthiness by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, based on its performance in their frontal offset crash tests into a deformable barrier at 40 mph. It was also the first car to be awarded the double 5-star rating in front and side impact crash testing done by the U.S. government.

Myth:  Mercedes makes the best cars.

No longer; even German drivers say they prefer Toyota and Lexus.

Myth: Cars are better made today.

Partly, yes. Bodies are safer and more durable; engines and transmissions are less reliable and costlier to fix.
