  1. It is a check you get at the bank to purchase something with. It is kind of on the same idea as a money order you would get at the post office. It bears the name of the bank, the amount you prchased it for. People use them if they don't have a checking account.

  2. It's an official check issued by a bank.

  3. A Cashiers Check is an official, certified check drawn off of a financial institution account.  Meaning the funds on the check are good. It is verifiable funds.  There are instances where if the check is lost or stolen you can report it to the bank and a stop payment may be placed and a new Cashier's Check will than be issued.

Like the commentator above me mentioned, it is much like a money order.  Generally with Cashier's Check the Teller at the bank or the bank representative will need to know who the Check is to be "Payable to" and if an account number should be notated as well.  If you are purchasing the Cashiers Check your name will be listed on the bottom of the check as the "remitter." Unlike a money order where you manually write in this information, the information is inputted into the banking systems program. This process as well as the purchasing fees associated with a cashier's check (which is a lot higher than a typical money order.) are the only two difference from a regular money order.
