What is a chalazion/stye removal like? (procedure, recovery etc.)?

I'd like to hear from someone who has actually gone through the procedure. I scheduled one for my chalazion - but I wanted to know a few things:

Procedure/Prep:

Do you feel any weird sensations/pain at any time?

Recovery:

How long does it take for your eye to look somewhat normal again... and what does that look like?

And - were you satisfied with your procedure?

  1. I am an ophthalmic technician and have assisted with nearly a hundred of chalazion excisions.  These procedures are general and vary based on physician First they will clean the area.  Then an anesthetic drop will be instilled. An injection of lidocaine will be given in the area.  A clamp will be placed around the chalazion and the lid will be flipped.  An incision will be made under the lid.  Some chalazion are softer than others think of it as a nasty zit getting popped.  The doctor will drain all the puss (by squeezing with cotton tipped applicators) and cauterize the area.  You will feel nothing.  At the time of cauterization you will feel warmth and smell a funny odor.  It is about 85% affective with no return.
