  1. keep the squire, get someone you know who plays or a shop to set up the playing action and pick ups, then buy yourself an effects pedal (zoom do a cheap one) that should give you all the different sounds you need, you can pick these up cheap on ebay

  2. well, you pretty much need a different amp then. your amp is about 90% of your tone. A GOOD amp can make a S****y guitar sound good. From what you say, it sounds like you want distortion?? well, you wont get that from a guitar. you need an amp with a Distortion or Drive or Over-Drive....theres a lot of different terms for it. But a TWO channel amp at least should do the trick, or you can buy a Distortion Pedal...also known as Drive, Over-Drive, Gain, Boost, Fuzz...whatever...

  3. I got my son an Ibanez electric base guitar at a pawn shop when he was 16.I paid $100.00 for it.It came with an amp, a chord, and a bag.He told me later that it got him hooked on playing. If you can go to auctions, that is where you can find good brands of guitars for many different skill levels, for a base price of usually under 100.00.our local free trade paper comes out every Thursday, and has a section for auctions.
