  1. hi I am Italian

and easy to reach from roma chivitavecchia

to remembered that in italia there are the € Euro

  2. There is really no "cheap'' way because the cruise ship port is more than an hour away from Rome.  About the best option is the train.  BUT you need to know that if you are going to Rome and coming back to the ship you had better not be late or the ship WILL leave you.  If you are wanted to get to Rome but not go on a ship's tour the check to see if they are offering the "Rome on your own" option; essentially they take you by bus to a designated drop-off/pick-up point.  You do what you want and get back to the pick up point by the appointed time.  That's the best way not to be left behind.  They offered that on our Royal Caribbean cruise which stopped in Civitavecchia.

    You can take a train:

Or, you can arrange a limo or bus:

Or you can ask your cruise line if they provide transfers.

The port is along way from Rome, about an hour, so be sure that in arranging your own transportation you give yourself plenty of time to get there.

  3. It is really quite easy to get to Rome from Civitavecchia by train. The train station is out of the Port and along to the right. You can buy your train tickets on-line before you go, saves standing in queues and minimises delays.

Journey takes about 70 minutes and the trains run every 20 minutes.

A train ticket will cost £10 ($20) round trip.

While it is cheaper than doing the boats excursion and perfectly possible to do on your own, if you haven't been to Rome before, I would advise you to plan what you are going to do and see before you arrive.

Most of the main attractions are within walking distance of the station and although Rome is easy to get around it is also very easy to get disorientated and very lost.

Remember to plan to get back to the ship in plenty of time. Rush hour in Rome is between 4pm and 6pm and it is manic.

If you're not confident travelling in a strange city, in a foreign country, spend the cash and take the ship's tour.

  4. Because Civitavecchia is so far from Rome, this is the one time that I suggest you take a bus offered from the cruise ship itself. In the long run, it may not be the cheapest, but you will have peace of mind of getting there and getting back. There really isn't a better way than this.
