Question:

What is a cheap way to input 4 component video devices to a TV and a projector without losing image quality?

I have 4 devices with component outputs that i want wired to a TV and a projector. I tried several switcher boxes that required power, but they all distorted the picture slightly sending slow horizontal lines up the screen. I tried a Philips 4:1 switcher from Wal-Mart, and then thought I was saved when I found a RadioShack 4:2 (exactly what I need), but it distorted the exact same way. I'm thinking about adding a component amplifier after the switcher box to see if that helps. What do you think? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. My advice is to get a cheap receiver or a good switch box. You won't find a good box at either Wal-Mart or Radio Shack. Try the web.

  2. You need a 4 x 2 component video switcher like this one:

CE Labs SW204HD Component Video Switcher

    http://www.futurehomesystems.com/v600.sh...

    or this:

Video Storm CSM42 4x2 Component VideoCoaxial and Optical Digital Audio Switcher/Distribution Amplifier

    http://www.hdtvsupply.com/vics4maswfrs.h...

They should work better than the ones from Radio Shack.

  3. The luminence (green cable), the red and the blue have to enter your television at 1volt peek-to-peek or it won't work right. You have to use a powered device to achieve this. You need a distribution amplifier, which, albiet not a good one, that's what the Radio Shack device is. In order to feed two monitors, you also need a switch. If you want to run different input devices to the different displays simultaniously, you will need a matrix switch.

The link from the other responder should suffice. Remember, a distribution amp/switch.
