We rented The Sandlot just for fun to see if our son would be interested. It's rated PG, but the language was way worse than what we expected.....

  1. actually 101 dalmations..(cartoon disney version)..i watched it a million times when i was a kid.....and never thought anything of this but they say the word "IDIOT" quite a few times...now my 3 yr old is saying the same word all the time...wont b watching that movie for a while...shame on disney

  2. Aww, I love The Sandlot! But, I agree about the language...

Actually, a lot of the older Disney movies seem inappropriate; such as 'Peter Pan'... Smee states, "Wouldn't it be more humane like, to slit his throat?" '101 Dalmatians' talks of skinning puppies, drowning them, bashing them in the head, etc.

And, the newer movies have way too much potty humor... they didn't do that in the old ones!

  3. Sponge Bob has some adult humor in it but most of the jokes are subtle enough to go over kids' heads.

I know it's not a movie, but the Musical 'We Will Rock You' thats playing in Canada and UK right now is advertised as a 'family' show, but there is some pretty harsh language and adult themed dancing/costumes/situations.

The show itself was complete c**p, don't get me wrong, but if I were a parent who had brought my child there expecting a fun night out, I would not be happy.

  4. Shrek

Haven't even bothered to see the second one after throwing the first one in the garbage.

ADDED*** We don't use that language in our family so why would calling it a   "family film" make any difference to me?  And how could anyone think Shrek was a great movie for children?  Maybe for adults or teens, but not little kids.

  5. Raise your voice with Hillary Duff-back when my daughter was 8-she was the big thing.

Her brother dies in it-gets smashed by a car..I was so disturbed.

But the incredibles and shrek-no way! Those movies are great. All movies like that have adult messages in it.

  6. I was going to post the Goonies as well because of the language but couldn't remember the rating.

  7. The Goonies - I remember it from when I was young. Watched it with my kids and heard a lot of language that I didn't remember being in it.

  8. The Incredibles, because the kids started getting all gooey about the kissing and "intimate" scenes. It's supposed to be rated G...

  9. well i loved the cars movie but they say idiot and moron - so my 4 year old says " illiot" and " tourn" now.

Incredibles - yea there was a little more in there than I thought necessary. I find there is way more in these PG and some times even G than I want my 4 year old to repeat. I did take my son to see Horton hears a who and it was really cute. So thumbs up for that one.

  10. Back when my kids were growing up, there weren't any rental movies. We didn't even have a tv. But they read a lot, and I almost always pre-read the books they'd bring home from the library, all from the children's section. There were a few I didn't let them read, but I remember one in particular. It was a fantasy about a boy and girl who go to a surreal land a kill a monster. then they retire to under a tree and copulate, complete with detailed descriptions. I took it to the library and complained. The moved it to the "young adult" section and the girls read it several years later.

It is our job to protect our kids from anything we find objectionable. Good for you for watching it ahead of time.

RE movies, our son really freaked out when the witch appread in Snow White. He and I waited in the lobby for the rest of the family to see it.

  11. Shrek 2 was very inappropriate.  My nieces and nephews love it, and my son ended up watching it with them one night.  Getting him to stop singing the "s**y tush" song was quite the chore, and we're going to wait a few more years before we let him watch it again.

  12. Spongebob and Shrek. I don't feel either one is appropriate for any child under to age of 7 or 8. My daughters(ages 2 and 6) will not be watching either of those for a while.

  13. any movie from the eighties/early nineties.  the rating system wasn't the same as it is today.  (ex. the goonies)  I saw some people put shrek and the incredibles...that's why those are "family films"...there's content in there for you (the parents)and for the kids, who, at the end of the movie is not going to know donkey said "i don't like no d**n parfait"...lol

  14. When I was a kid my parents let me watch Beetlejuice... it was supposed to be kid friendly, but the one word thrown in there was the f-word. My mom regreted that movie rental for a while. A new word to a kid is like a shiny new car to an adult. My child won't be watching that.

  15. When we were kids, my mom rented my sister and I some old version of The Little Mermaid (not the very famous animated one that everyone knows which came out later, this was before that. Wow, I feel old now, haha) and she DIES at the end! The prince hears her singing at night after his marriage (to the girl he mistakenly thinks saved him), and comes out onto the boat deck and it is only covered in sea foam and she is gone, she jumps off the side and kills herself and then he suddenly remembers who she is and what happened, but it's too late. We were depressed for weeks ><

    Addendum:

I think this is actually the original story, but how depressing for a kid! Yeesh

  16. charile and the chocolate factory (starring johnny depp)

it's kind of freaky for a child i think.. a grown-up understands the meaning beyond the characters but a child might be confused by the fantastic world. just my humble opinion

  17. Spiderwick Chronicles.

We had read the books & were looking forward to the DVD release.  But, the director's interpretation, combined with the fact that they had to condense all 5 books into one movie, made the plot & characters more intense than the story that my children imagined while we were reading it.
