What is a comfortable salary in sydney,i am a network engineer moving shortly to sydney.What is the scope ?

it all depends on your lifestyle really and what u want.

i know a friend who earns 30k a yr and he is happy with it and comfy with it. he has a car.. has pay tv.. foxtel and shares/rents a place with someone and he is happy with that situation and is comfortable with it.

i also know my bf who earns 300k a yr and he wants to earn more because his lifestyle is different than my friend.. my bf buys designer clothes  and we go to expensive restuarants nearly every week that costs about $250-300 for dinner and he lives in a $3 mill house by the water in sydney and wants to buy another house by the beach too. it all depends. comfortable is different for everyone. my bf would not be comfortable sharing a place with someone or owning a car thats less than 50k wich my 30k earning friend is very happy having a 20k car.

Depending on your skill sets and certs you may have a salary from 60 to 90.000 should be possible. If you have Checkpoint, Cisco and maybe Linux/Unix....more is possible. Also it matters if you are a contractor (more) or go permanent (less).

In Brisbane and Perth they currently pay more

For a reasonably good lifestyle in Sydney in a reasonable apartment with some dining out, some clubbing and a few luxuries but without living a luxurious life, 90k and up should fit the bill. As a network engineer, should be able to negotiate something around that or better.

Have a look at the Ambit IT&T Salary Index.  It should give you the info you need, based on own your job classification.

For Sydney, it quotes a Network Engineer as:

Junior $65,000

Intermediate $85,000

Senior $110,000

These are Base Salaries only and do not include superannuation, bonus, commissions or other benefits.

i live comfortably in the eastern suburbs in sydney and get $60k a year. Obviously with your profession you can get more than that but I just mean that I live comfortably on that salary.
