I have been drinking heavily every day the past 3 weeks. When I wake up my anxiety is through the roof. I feel like I want to jump out of my skin. I don't have a hangover but I feel like being put to death. It lasts all day until I start drinking again. Is this a sign of alcohol withdrawal?

  1. shakes

  2. The feelings you describe having after waking up after drinking are definitely a sign of alcohol addiction, being as you are immediately having intense craving for alcohol right away.

Feelings of intense anxiety, and restlessness are definitely signs of withdrawal. If you don't give into the craving, and decide you want to get help, you should contact and get yourself to a detox facility to go through the process safely, with supervision.

Withdrawing from alcohol can be deadly if not handled the right way.

It is a true physical withdrawal from alcohol that the body goes through as you get off of alcohol.

To answer your question plain and simple what you describe in your question sounds like a symptom of craving alcohol and not necessarily a withdrawal symptom, but it sounds like if you went longer without alcohol you definitely would experience withdrawal symptoms. Please consider getting yourself into detox.

  4. Poppet, if you carry on like this you know what the outcome will be.

If you did not care you would not be posting this question.

You are experiencing, Alcoholism you have so much in your system right now, once the affects wear off, your body is screaming out for more.

If you continue in this way,I swear to you,you will be not only killing yourself, but becoming a person that everyone will loathe including yourself.

Try as hard as it seems to Stop.

If your drinking is a long term thing you will need medical supervision,I implore you to seriously think about this. Don't destroy your life and others around you as I once did!

  5. As a grateful recovering alcoholic, my tendency is to go into panic mode FOR YOU and tell you to stop right now!

But I'll go with my tendency and tell you to STOP RIGHT NOW!

If you have MySpace, go to my page which you can find by searching for Dayleab, which is my member name, and email me.

I'll copy the blog I wrote that details my last day of the insanity that was my life before detox and send it to you via email.

Reading it, you'll be able to ascertain for yourself if you honestly, really, absolutely think proceeding with the daily drinking is going to be worth it my friend.....

It's raw, it's stark but most of all, it's absolutely HONEST and true and worth a read if you think you have a problem with alcohol.

Consider it:  I'm sincere when I say to STOP RIGHT NOW.  Every alcoholic in active recovery feels the same as I do about someone like yourself.  We care and don't wish that sheer h**l on ANYONE!

No do as I said and do it now.

Note:  That offer is open to anyone who might feel they have a problem with alcohol.

  6. Yes the way you feel in the morning is a classic alcohol withdrawal symptom.  Please contact your GP and/or alcohol advisory service (NHS direct if your not sure who to contact).  If you want to stop drinking and really want to stop, they can prescribe medication to relieve your physical symptoms.  However, you also need to address what made you drink in the first place, to help stop you relapsing - psychologist or counselling.  You could also try AA.  Good luck!
