  1. Zip is a system of compressing files. This makes said files to be smaller in size (bytes) than when they are non-compressed. As far as use goes, you can simply right click on your Desktop and create a new zipped folder, open it and drag the files you want to be compressed into it. To retrieve your files, you simply treat the Zip folder as a regular folder (though it is actually more of a file rather than a folder =)).

  3. You're undoubtedly familiar with what a folder is on your computer -- you put files in a folder to organize them.  Well, there is a way to compress and archive the folder into a single file -- compressed meaning the compressed file is smaller in size than the cumulative file sizes of each file inside the folder -- and an archive meaning all the files in the folder are now represented within a single file.

ZIP is a format used for archiving and compression.  It is popular when you need to group a bunch of files together for sending over the internet/email or burning to a CD where you want to save space.

www.7zip.org has free zip tools, but Windows also comes with them.

  4. is a folder that has been "compressed" to save space, and people use it to make files smaller and send them, u can put many files into a zip folder, thus making it just one compressed file that u can decompress at anytime and extract it's contents
