Question:

What is a contact lens fitting for?

i.e. what's the purpose of it? Does the doctor actually determine/measure the base curve and diameter during a fitting? Or do they figure those numbers out after you decide you like the trial contacts after a week or so? I ask because my eye doctor office told Contacts.com I couldn't order certain contacts because I needed a fitting for them, but I DID have one already, within the last year. Thanks.

  1. A contact fitting is just like a shoe fitting. If you have the incorrect lens for your eyes this can cause the lens to slip and roll. Also if you have the wrong strength lens this can cause problems also.

  2. Over the course of just one year, the shape of the eye can change drastically depending on your age.  Yes, the doctor actually does make those measurements during a fitting.

  3. It's to make sure you get the correct fitting for your eye....I've been wearing contacts for years and when I get new ones..I take for granted that a fitting is a part of that process.....it's the difference between a good fit with good vision and a bad fit with heaps of discomfort and forever looking for your lens because it flicks out...

  4. The fitting is to ensure that ur eye is comfortable when wearing the lenses

  5. they shouldnt charge you for a whole new fiiting..maybe just an updat.  Its common for people eyes to change, and this covers them in that they rechecked you.

  6. By your additional info, it sounds like you should be demanding an answer from the Dr's office as to why it was refused.

It is your legal right to order where you want, if the prescription is still valid and in order....if he likes it or not.
