I not sure but I think they are the veins.

It is a transverse section ( i. e. at right angle to the long axis of the organ ) of that particular plant organ.

For example = When a cross section of a cylindrical stem is taken with a thin , sharp blade ; it will appear circular and , under a microscope ,will show internal structures.
