Over advertising of the problem.  To many bands writing songs about it and trying to get credit for the problem.  One thing not advertised is how quickly rain forest grows back.

people are chopping down trees and thousands of acres are disappearing every year. Animals that inhabit the area are dying because they don't have any shelter.

several years ago brazil mandated that all cars & small trucks can only use 100% bio fuel. so they have to cut down more & more rain forest every year to make room for the sugar cane & other crops the bio fuels are made from to keep the country rolling.

Deforestation to grow massive amount of grain and crops to produce cheap animal feed. Tonnes of grain are used to feed animals to produce meat. 12 pounds of grain only produces an equivalent of 1 pound of meat.

Have you ever looked into a rainforest and saw how much stuff lives there?

  Biodiversity is what keeps the planet alive because no one organism can survive alone.

Take you body for example. Do you know how much stuff is living on and in your body? What are the four food groups and where do you get them from? What caused the Irish to immigrate to the US in masses in the 1840’s?  Why don’t you hear birds in a lumber forest?  Where does aspirin come from? What is the source of caviar and how is it different form different area’s.  What is the cause of Dutch elm disease?

  These are all questions related to biodiversity.  A mono-planet mono-crop or even a simple ecosystem is prone to suffer from a minor change where as a larger biodiversity is more able to adapt to that change and grow.

Now take into account the deforestation of a rain forest for the production of corn. A monocrop that will only be productive in that soil for 1-2 years after that they have to slash and burn more land. In turn this decreases the rainfall.
