  1. Also called  a "New" moon.  It's when the side of the Moon that faces Earth (always the same side, because the moon is "tidally locked" - meaning that it rotates once for every time it goes around the Earth, always keeping the same side facing Earth) is also facing away from the sun, and therefore dark.

The Moon is, of course, still there.  It's just not reflecting enough sunlight to be readily visible.  Instead, the "far side" which faces away from Earth and cannot be directly seen, is the side that is lit.

  2. Probably a new moon. It's when the cycle of the moon starts over and there is no moon outside at night.

  3. A dark moon describes the Moon during that time that it is invisible against the backdrop of the Sun in the sky. The duration of a dark moon is between 1.5 and 3.5 days, depending on the orientation of the Earth and Sun.
