What is a database used for on yahoo groups?

i was just wonderind cus i have a group for edwardcullen fans and i want to know wat its used for.

groups use them for many reasons. I've never had a need to use them. you use them to maybe add data/ info, let's say phones numbers or birthdays

I actively check 13 different Yahoo Groups that I am in.  Two of them use the Database feature.  One is a role-playing Group, and the Database is used to keep track of who is playing each character.  The other one is kind of a watchdog group of the local public transit agency, and it uses the Database to log member's complaints about bad service when riding this public transit system.
