I will be station there in the navy, the main base in San diego. I wouldn't mind living near the beach but not to to from the base. I'll need a 2 bedroom looking to spend between 1800 to 2000 a month. thanks.

  1. For that much you should be able to have your pick of  2 bedroom rentals, so that's a plus. Main base in Pt. Loma or Main base on Coronado, North Island. Living on Coronado is nice, but you'll have to cross the bridge for pretty much everything else, like shopping or movies, etc. If you're in Pt. Loma, then Pt. Loma is a great neighborhood to live in, as well as Ocean Beach.

  2. You should be able to find an apartment in Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach or Mission Beach in that price range.

I'd suggest looking in the Sunday newspaper...also these sites:

    http://www.apartments.com

    http://www.craigslist.com

    Good luck!

  3. Getting a rent for $ 1800-2000 in Coronado is impossible. It is very expensive. My uncle lived a one room there before he bought a house and used to pay close to that price and it was back then in '95. A retired veteran.

However, within the down town area, I am sure you can get something better with that price or even less, and the navy base is right there close to you by 30th st.

  4. I suggest you check the classifieds of the local newspaper, website is www.signonsandiego.com

If you are in your 20s you should look at Ocean Beach, Mission Beach or Pacific Beach.  While Imperial Beach is less expensive you should be aware that the area is subject to beach pollution from sewage overflows from Tijuana and for that reason I think you wouldn't want to rent there.

Ocean Beach is sort of laid back, Mission Beach is a lot of drinking and high density, Pacific Beach also heavy drinking area but also prettier and not as heavy density, esp. if you are in the northern part of town (which is also more expensive).  You'd need to check out these areas in person to decide where you'd fit in.

Ocean Beach is closest to Navy bases of the three areas listed above.  Since it's near the airport, in order to avoid noise from landings/takeoffs you'd want to live in the southern part of OB which doesn't have near the problem with airport noise as the northern part does.  Southern part of OB also has lower density, and less noise.

If you look for housing in the beach areas keep in mind that finding street parking is always a challenge so you might want to keep track of which places will have off street reserved parking space versus you having to find parking on the street.

Not sure where the "main base" you're referring to is in SD as there are multiple large Navy bases here.  If you're at 28th St. then Coronado would be close; it's pretty expensive there and an older population, so if you are younger it might be a little boring for you.  If you are older or uninterested in drinking and partying then Coronado may be worthy of consideration.  But again, it will be expensive.

  5. Rancho Bernardo

    its pretty cheap there

  6. coronado, I think you could find an place for that price, pacific beach, ocean beach.

mission valley is nice but slightly further inland. Oh, point loma would be your best bet for an upper class apartment like what you're looking for.near the beach and a generally quiet high class neighborhood.
