A dell is a type of landform.

To me, Dell was always the company that makes computers....So when someone says a "dell", they are referring to a dell computer / laptop.

I beleive that a "dell" is a small open valley surrounded by trees.  If it is actually wooded as some of your answers indicate.  the trees would be sparsely spaced and allow an under growth of grasses.
