What is a design brief?

ok, for my textiles coursework, i have to write a design brief.

i have done one before, but she has explained to us what it is, and this time she hasn't, so it would be great help if someone could tell me.

its for my major project, gcse and i really need to do well.

a 'design-brief' is the plan for whatever it is you are making!  The design brief for a car, may be that it has to be small for the city, with good space for four adults, and with excellent safety and fuel-economy.  Or it might be that the car should be "the best-handling 2-seater V8 engined convertible available at this price".  So a brief has ambitions, but also constraints.

you need aims and objectives. just look at your 1st brief you did and write one accordingly but on another subject.

It is a statement of requirements for the project: How you want it to perform functionally, aesthetically, and economically. The brief identifies the objectives and is the standard against which the finished result can be judged. It should be restricted to what is required - ideally it should not anticipate a particular design solution - that comes after.

a design brief is what your going to do so say for example your going to make a dress

then say I'm making this dress to reflect the modern fashion world, i used a variety of fabrics to show the diversity of fashion in the world.

Are you writing this before you start your design project?

Just write the aims and objectives of your design. "To create a fabric that....." or something like that. Longer though!!

Just write about what you want to achieve wih your design, what your inspirations might be etc.
