  1. Any newer VW or Mercedes. They use particulate filters for the black soot, and get great MPG.

  3. I just test drove a VW TDI at the Woodland Hills VW dealer.  At this time the dealer said they are only getting a couple and will be adding $2000 to the price.  Wait until the end of the year and then buy one when they stop adding extra to the sticker.

    Subaru is also coming out with a diesel also.
