What is a dogleg turn on a roller coaster?

  1. Any abrupt turn or change in direction.  

    Most coasters are the "out and back" type.  You go out a certain distance, then the track turns around to bring the train back to the station.  That turn can be wide and gentle, or it can be abrupt and quick, in which case it's a "dog leg turn".  These are usually Incorporated in coasters that are built in tight quarters.
