  1. A dormer is that little, tiny ,tasteless, totally useless appendage which most hideously juts from the roof line of a house in a way to cause the most ugly possible.Normally added to the roof line  by some moron who just graduated from  architects school and is just dieing to use an Auto CAD program. It serves no purpose, because said moron has never actually built a house and is totally clueless as to the real purpose for adding a dormer to a home. Thus we have dormers everywhere you can't turn around in,let alone, place a piece of furniture in or God forbid- make it big enough to have a window seat!

  2. Its a window that juts out from the roof with its own little roof like the ones on everybody loves raymond the tv show

  3. A dormer is a window which is set vertically on a sloping roof. The dormer has its own roof, which may be flat, arched, or pointed.

    But...

some people in Michigan use the term "dormer" to describe a room added to a house to make an upper level.
