I recently bought a 2008 VW Jetta and had the car tinted. When I took it in for tint I asked if there could be a strip of tint put at the top of the front windshield; the sales rep said the tint may not go on smooth because there is a "dot matrix". Why is they put dot matrix's on cars?

  1. The dot matrix is the brow (tint at the top of the windshield) laminated into the glass at the factory. If you try to tint over this.. it will look like a screen because of the uneven surface.

If you ever need to replace your windshield you can order a aftermarket windshield without the tint on top.
