What is a draft pick?

I have an assignment at school and i must know the meaning of a draft pick.. you can tell i dont watch football :)

there is a draft where teams try to pick up draft eligible players

there is a batch of players with agents who have never played in the league before(but have played in high school/college)

teams pick them so they pick someone from the draft

hence the name draft pick
