  1. This means that the bottom end drive must ge filled with the proper gear oil. Look at a manual to make sure!!Check all seals and bellows at bottom end for cracks and holes. After fillng unit check and make sure you have NO oil leaks!!

  2. The drive on an OMC is the out drive. That's the part that goes in the water with the propeller on it. It consists of the upper unit and the lower unit, both of which need to be filled with marine type gear oil ( lower unit oil ).

It's not a real hard job to put the outdrive back on the boat. Put it on the boat and then fill it. The upper unit, if it's a stringer 400 or 800 will have a big s***w right in the top of it. When you loosen the s***w, you will find that it is actually a dipstick for the upper unit.. The upper can be filled thru that hole. The lower unit is just like the lower unit on an outboard. It will have a s***w at the bottom on the right side and a s***w about 6 inches up on the left side. Remove both screws and let any oil drain out. To refill the bottom unit, put the nozzle of the oil bottle or tube in the lower hole and squeeze the bottle or tube. When oil comes out the upper hole, leave the nozzle in the bottom hole and replace the upper plug, then remove the nozzle and replace the bottom plug.
