Edie Sedgwick was a socialite friend of artist Andy Warhol. She also starred in several of his movies. Warhol's studio space in the 60's was called the Factory and was quite the New York party hotspot. His female entourage were actually generally referred to as Superstars, not factory girls, but with the Sedgwick reference I'm sure that's what you're looking for.
