What is a fancy restraunt in Austin?

Its going my birthday soon and me and my friends want to get dressed up and go out to a fancy restaurant. Any suggestions?

As for dressing up, I am all for it, but don't be surprised if other patrons are dressed a little too casual for the setting/atmosphere they are in - Austin is still pretty laid back when it comes to fine dining.

Not sure what your price range is, but what about Jeffrey's? It's pretty swanky and their food is fantastic.

If you're not looking for that high end but still really nice, try Mars. www.marsrestaurant.com. I haven't found anything there that I don't like!

Starlight downtown off of 4th and Colorado-ish is also really good. They also have fantastic drinks and dessert. Plus it's next to Cuba Libre, so you could always go there for drinks afterwards!

Also, The Belmont on 6th and Lavaca (?) is really good and has a great patio. www.thebelmontaustin.com

You could always go to one of the more expensive chain restaurants, but why when we have fantastic local restaurants! (Unless one of the above is a chain and I don't know. In that case, I might be a big jerk but they're still fantastic!)

if you like sushi you should try fancy expensive kenichi restaurant ..

it is so worth the cost there's one in my town my boyfriend took me there it was great

that's the only restaurant i know of in Austin Texas.

In addition to the other suggestions, there is also Bess on 6th (Sandra Bullocks rest.).  Price is ok, but portions are small-one of my friends did his b-day dinner there a couple years ago.
