  1. A movie that depicts women as important characters in their own right (not just as plot devices, MacGuffins or eye candy). My favourite example is "Aliens". It's got several female characters, some of them in plot-driving roles, and they aren't depicted as stronger or weaker or whinier or more sexualised than the male ones - s*x and gender is a non-issue. It's a real relief to see a movie like that once in a while.

  2. I think it is rude for a feminist actress to accept $20million for a role after she has put on high heels and miniskirts like Sharon Stones and Julie Roberts.

Also I think it is hypocritical of Maradonna to purport to be a feminsits and then take off all her clothes and make an exhibition of herself and buy a castle in England and say she has found her handsome prince in shining amour.

    Knight in Amour or something.

    Yes. It's a conumdrums.

EDIT: MISATHROPE - how odd to make a judgment on what yoy think a man's name should be in a forum that encourages forward-thinking on gender issues.

I am indeed a man and I work at sea (Aqua) and I am a marine.

Or - I am a guy who likes to swim underwater like Marina in StingRay.

    Or

I just couldn't be bothered when I was signing up for my account and typed the first thing that came into my mind -

Which of the above is true and anyway why would you care??

    LOL

Misanthrope by name and misanthrope by nature? Odd name.

  3. Mona Lisa Smile, because it was about women's rights to live their own lives rather than prattle on as somebody's s*x toy.

Cider House Rules, for the same reason (though most just go on and on about how it's pro-abortion... that drives me crazy to overlook some of the other political messages and get caught on ONE!)

And just about any other movie that promotes the ideas of women as being human beings.

  4. I would say North Country, even though the word "feminism" was never used in it. I'm throwing around some ideas for a feminist screenplay.

  5. Apparently, anything except "Ladyhawke" or "The Karate Kid Part 3."

  6. Thelma and Louise

    Fried Green Tomatoes

    A League of Their Own

  7. Blame it on Fidel... it''s a french movie, and not many people have seen it...
