  1. Public holidays are

1 January - new year / triumph of the revolution

1 May - day of the worker

25 July - attack on Moncada Barracks (1952) - three days of holiday

10 October - start of the revolution against Spanish rule

    25 December - Christmas

    Not public holidays, but celebrated:

14 February - day of the lovers

    8 March - womens' day

Second Sunday in May - Mothers' Day

Most cities have a carnival, usually in the summer, but at varying times.

Havana celebrates the anniversary of its founding.

  2. In addition to the public holidays with the festivals that go along with them, Cuba is known for the Havana Jazz Festival and the Latin American Film festival.

There is also the Annual Cuba Youth Jazz Festival.

Also the Havana Carnival in August annually along El Malécon (I believe Beardo may have mentioned this one?)

In Santiago de Cuba there is Fiesta del Fuego in July.

I'm not sure if you classify this as a 'festival', but in Camagüey there is a street party every Saturday night called La Noche Camagüeyana.

These festivals are in Ciego de Ávila (Jardines del Rey part):

    Feria Jardines del Rey.

The Steam Locomotive Festival takes place in December.

The Jardines del Rey Jazz Festival is in June.

The Jardines del Rey Salson Festival is in October.

There are many more different types of Festivals in Cuba...I located some links so you can read about them.

  3. New Year's Day is both the beginning of a new year and the Cuban national day. Celebrations go on for days! http://cubano.ws/content/
