  1. Looking at the specs for your camera, I'm not seeing a USB interface.

Only a Firewire (IEEE 1394) connection.(Firewire is the Macintosh, IEEE 1394 is the IBM compatible name.  Same thing)

Your computer most likeyl doesn't have an IEEE 1394 port.

You will have to buy an IEEE 1394 port and install it in your computer. ($15 at most)

  2. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.

  3. Firewire is a system in which one computer talks with another peripheral (say another computer or an external hard disk or in your case a handycam). it's faster than your average USB connection. and it has it's own port. if your firewire won't fit into your PC, then you don't have a port for it.

when you attach your camera to your PC, and it doesn't recognize it, you may need to install a driver for your camera. do a quick search on the web about your camera model. once the driver is installed, the PC should recognize the camera when you plug it in via USB.

another way around this is to get the memory card from your camera and put it in the card reader. if your PC doesn't have a card reader slot, you can get one at almost no cost (I got one for $10) since it's a sony, make sure the one you get will accept sony memory sticks.

once you put your memory card in, the pc should read it as removable media (usually drive e or f or g) just drag the files from there onto your desk top and you're done.

to upload videos, check with the site which formats are supported, you may have to convert your files to such a format before you can upload. they usually have simple instructions on how to upload your videos.

    enjoy.

  4. Firewire to USB cables don't work!  If you've really got one of those you should throw it away -  it's worthless!  You have to connect a firewire device (e.g. your camcorder) to another firewire device (a firewire card in your PC) via a firewire cable.  All MiniDV camcorders have a 4 pin firewire socket, so one end of the cable must be 4 pin.  Most firewire cards have a 6 pin socket, but some have a 4 pin socket.  The other end of the cable must be 4 pin or 6 pin  - the same as the card.

  5. First of all you need to have a firewire input on your computer and there are two kinds- a 4 pin and 6 pin.

The 4 pin is tiny, usually comes laptops and looks like a rectangle with a little dip in the top.

The 6 pin is usually in desktops and looks like a USB but a little wider and almost goes to a point- on most newer PCs and in all Macs.

If you don't have any of these ports than go down to your local electronic stores (best buy, circuit city) and ask for a firewire port. You will have to install it inside the PC (if you have a laptop ask for the PCMI card). Then ask them what kind of cord to get.

You're camera will have a 4 pin firewire plug in in the front by the USB plug.

    GOODLUCK!!
