  1. A flash flood is a flood that results from high intensity rainfall in a short period of time. The ground does not have enough time to absorb the water, which causes it gather above the ground and raise rivers and streams up considerably. This can happen at any time as long as the rainfall intensity is high enough. Its more likely to happen when the ground has already received too much rain and a severe thunderstorm suddenly arrives and dumps a lot of rain quickly.
