What is a follicle?

And what does it mean when you have them?? Also, how big should the be when trying to conceive??I might have all of this wrong and I hope someone can explain this all to me. Thanks so much. One first round of clomid.

  1. The follicles I believe you are referring to are ovarian follicles. Each month your ovaries produce eggs, which are located inside of theses follicles. When you ovulate, the follicles break and the egg is released. For women taking fertility medication there will be more follicles and for those that are not under medication will have fewer. The size of the follicle has nothing to do with conception; it is all about the follicle breaking and the egg coming out. Once that happens, the egg has approx. 72 hours to be fertilized. If fertilized, it will implant on the uterine wall and if not it will shed with your next cycle.
