Stick with freeware? SUPER would be your best choice, it's an general free video converter.

If you just convert video casually, freeware would be your best choice.

When you do this frequently, I think a professional one would be necessary.

you just have to get a flv converter to convert flv to avi,  I always use FLV to Video Converter to convert flv video to mpeg, avi ,wmv, video, I have used it for a long time, it works great for me, you can free download it here to have a try too,
