A "Freshman Hunt" is a basically extinct high-school hazing ritual wherein the upperclassmen would have a day, generally the first day of school, during which they could order freshmen around and generally abuse them, by giving them spankings, making them do push-ups, making them carry books, etc.

The American Civil Liberties Union has pretty well eliminated such abusive practices these days. Report any hazing to the school administration and threaten to call the ACLU and sue the school if you are subjected to any such uncalled for behavior. The ACLU does not charge you anything to represent you in such matters. The lawsuit wouldn't cost you or your parents a penny. The hazing should end immediately at the very threat of such legal action..

I don't know if this is the same kind of "freshman hunt" to which you are referring but I have heard a person's first hunting trip referred to as their freshman hunt.
