  1. How is that possible? Some people often consider fruit such as tomatoes and cucumbers are vegetables, but that doesn't make it so. Fruit are the ripened ovary of a flower, usually fleshy pulp surrounding the seed, while vegetables are the leave, stem, or root part of the plant.

  2. A tomato!

  3. If you care to mix culinary and scientific descriptions (but I'm not sure why you'd want to), then lots of plant products would be "both at the same time" -- the most common one has been identified already (tomato). A tomato is technically a fruit (bears seeds) but most cooks will refer to it as a vegetable. In that sense, a pepper is also a fruit but, again, is never referred to as such in a grocery store. Broccoli, despite Bobby's suggestion, would not fit... it's a floret, not the products of that floret.

  4. Tomato. It is fruit vegetable (like root veg, leaf veg etc) and dealt with under Olericulture. But Pomology is the science of fruits and tomato is not included under that.

  5. Well, a tomato is a fruit that a lot of people call a vegetable.

  6. yes its very possible just like a tamato, or how an egg is dairy and meat

  7. Broccoli  seems to fit the requirements.

    Tomatoes are fruits.

Edit:   If broccoli is not, according to Mavster, then what is?   I am pretty sure that tomatoes are fruit by the scientific definition, so they are ruled out.

  8. Andrea there is no such thing as a vegetable fruit or a fruit vegetable. I mean the two are very different. Considering the fact that you posted your question in Botany i would assume that you want a scientific answer and not an answer which involves culinary thing whatsoever. If this is so then I would stand for my answer that nothing is both a vegetable and a fruit that is to consider all definitions. You must be swayed that tomato is considered a vegetable when coking. This is in fact true for those who know nothing about Botany or biology. For those who studied botany however they consider tomato as a fruit despite the fact that they used it as a vegetable when cooking.

    Hope this helps...

  9. tomato
