  1. My 5 year old loves Memory.

They make all sorts of Memory varieties, such as My Little Pony Memory, etc.

  2. get him a Nintendo Ds and the game brain age for it

  3. Don't Wake The Giant

  4. Here is a list of games that make great gifts:

My favorite one on that list is Gulo Gulo.   I have two five-year-olds and they love it.  It's not educational, but it's definitely fun.  And it requires good coordination and dexterity with your fingers, just like Operation.

It's also a good choice because it's not boring for adults, like many children's games are.

Most people have never heard of it, but it's still available.  I doubt you'll find it in a store though -- you'll probably have to order online.

  5. I always liked Chutes and Ladders. It helps them learn to count with the added fun of competitionalong with the climbing and sliding. Candy Land is also a fun kids game as well as Uncle Wiggly. Five year olds aren't really ready for games of strategy.

  6. if he is very patient then teach him chess. but for that age he needs to be VERY PATIENT!!!!!!!!!
