  1. autoharp!

  2. The Theremin!  You could make all those kooky sounds from old sci-fi movies!

  3. You want a new instrument to play, right? Well, if you were good at recorder, you may want to try clarinet. They are very similar, except the clarinet is much more difficult. Of course, I play flute, so that's always out there in my opinion.

  4. Because you have a start on guitar, I would probably recommend taking up the mandolin, which is mostly used for country, and a LOT of different folk songs, but can also be found in some great progressive rock bands.

The mandolin has 8 strings, but the strings are paired, so you strike two strings at once - virtually, it's like playing a 4-stringed instrument. Or you could try the banjo (which comes with 4 OR 5 strings), which has a much twangier sound than the mandolin, whereas the mandolin sounds much brighter (although it doesn't produce as loud a noise, due to it's body size.)

Another 4-stringed instrument is the violin. It's tuned the same as a mandolin, and they are considered MUCH harder to play... a violin has no frets, which means you are playing each note by ear. As well, it is a bowed instrument (it is played with a bow) as opposed to a strumming / picking instrument, like the guitar. Learning a violin helps a lot with musical development, and because you're searching for a new instrument to learn, you're clearly interested, and I think you'd have fun with it.

The recorder opens up many possibilities, especially if you enjoy wind instruments. A clarinet is (relatively) easy to play, and although a flute is much harder to learn, because it involves a very different technique, They are my favorite kind of woodwind instrument. You might also find a pennywhistle to be a great instrument - they're cheap, easier to play than a recorder, and sound very natural.

it's also great to learn piano, regardless if it's for your class or not - if you can play piano and master the theory, then you will have a pretty solid base for learning most other instruments. A lot of people consider the piano the hardest instrument to play, because it takes dedication and steady practice.

Hope this helped a little, and good luck finding an instrument that suits you!

  5. Tuba players ROCK!!! they all seem to have the best personalities.

  6. those box drums are pretty sweet, but idk how portable they would be...theyre a bit bulky.  I play the flute and if you like taking on the melody and also a challange...go for it!  I picked it because it is small so I wouldn't have to carry around a big case or instrument.  Try snare drum too! Join the drumline.  From my experience, its one of the most exciting instrument I've played and can be a blast!

Hope that helps!  Have fun performing with whatever instrument you choose! =)

  7. I play and love violin.  It's a lot of hard work to learn though.  If you rent one it will be cheeper, and i'm sure you could buy a used one, but when you get really good they will be pricey. Violin is also small and eay to carry despite when some people think. it's not small like the flute, but it's fairly easy to carry on busses in cars etc.

What kind of a class are you talking about exactly?

  8. DRUMS!!!!!!!!!! They are the best!!!!!!!!!!! :  )

  9. How about bongo's or maybe the banjo or bagpipes, anything that starts with B will work. lol

  10. Ukulele

  11. string instruments are awesome if you want a challenge.  you already know some music, so that works out.  staying in tune may come difficult at first but you'll get it.  I started with the clarinet, then the piano, then flute, sax, trumpet...then i decided i wanted something different.  so i started the viola.  its very different from what i was used to, but i've been playing for almost a year and it has already shown to be helpful...i can tune my instruments by ear now more accurately than i could before.  anyway...good luck with whatever you choose, but strings are really cool instruments, and they're so classical and full of...history =]

  12. Tuba players are the coolest out of all the people in the world. Although, the instruments you played were treble clef, and it might be better to stick with that.

Try a T.C. Euphonium. Beautiful sound, as long as you play it right (:
