I like the Hofbräu Haus too but I know where to get better beer ;) Try 'Augustiner Bräu' a bit outside of the shopping mile, it's cheaper, the beer is better and you will be able to find a table there!

The Hofbrau Haus. It's right across the street from the Hard Rock Cafe. BTW some guy named A. Hitler used drink and run his mouth there. Look for my initials in the front table

For the love of god don't go to Hofbrauhaus. It has the worst food on the face of the earth, and it's so touristy. If you're curious, go check it out but don't stay. I've heard Augustiner is a bit touristy too, but the beer is really good and the food is decent. You can also try Spatenhaus, across from the Opera House. Wherever you go, try the Weissbier--it's the special beer of Munich.
