For my homework I have to draw geometric shapes to represent a particular word but I am not sure what a geometric shape is.

Can someone list some geometric shapes?

  1. Shape IS geometry. Words are shapes but I assume your teacher means any shape except words, letters and numbers

  2. I would say a geometric shape is one that is defined by rules of construction.

Geometric Shape - Any shape or form that is mathematical in origin. Having  a distinct and characteristic shape

A circle has a uniform radius about a center location. A trapezoid would be a plane four-sided figure, having two sides parallel to each other.

The circle and trapezoid have well defined rules of construction.

So what rules define the construction lightning bolt shape?

You may find that geometric shapes are used in combination to construct a larger object.   Like a primitive picture of a house using a square and a triangle for the roof.  The picture isn't a geometric shape but it consists of simpler geometric shapes in combination.

For lightning, consider bolting (no pun intended) together several acute angle triangles and narrow rectangles together.

  3. A geometric shape is a shape with hard edges like squares and rectangles

shapes with curved edges are called organic shapes such as circles
