  1. How are we supposed to get into groups?

    Do your own homework, kiddo.

  2. residual energy

  3. Imaginations of mentally insane people.

  4. A ghost, in my opinion, is someone who's dead, but doesn't know it.  They have no sense of time, which is why the person could have died a hundred years ago, but only feels like a minute.

  5. Um, is this your homework?  I could give you my definition of a ghost, but I don't think we can split off into little groups and discuss in this forum.

From what I've learned, my basic definition of a ghost is "an earthbound spirit".

The spirit & soul of a person who has died, but has not crossed over to the next plane (the spirit world, heaven, wherever it is you believe our souls go after we die).  Some may remain earthbound because they still feel a strong connection to their physical lives and/or their homes/family, or they feel they have "unfinished business" to take care of before they will cross over.  (I don't agree that they don't know they are dead - I'm pretty sure they do.  But I do agree that their sense of time is different from ours.)  Ghosts are pure energy, and can draw more energy from their surroundings to manifest sounds, voice, and even an appirition of themselves in their attempts to communicate with the physical world.

In some places that are reported to have paranormal activity or be haunted, there very well could be ghosts (earthbound spirits).  But sometimes, and especially in places that very traumatic or tragic events took place, there may simply be residual energy, like a footprint of what happened in that place causing an event or series of events to be played over and over, like a video tape stuck in a loop.  In these cases, the spirit or "ghost" really isn't there - its soul has crossed over -  so the appiritions will not be aware of or attempt to interact with the living.  This is called a "residual haunt."
