Question:

What is a good, easy dinner to feed 100 people at a church activity? Doesn't have to be fancy.?

I don't have experience in organizing things like this. All I can think of is lasagna, spaghetti, or a baked potato/salad bar - all of which are things that have been done or will soon be done. Anyone have any new ideas?

  1. I would do ziti and meatballs with a little salad and of course bread and then have a sheet cake and coffee and tea for desert!

  2. Hot dogs, that is always good with nachos!

  3. taco bar with all the fixin's.  Serve with rice and corn bread.  Or have a soup supper.

  4. pancakes with choice of toppings (fresh berries, etc.). Something different but fun for everyone. Or if you had enough help you could always try a fish fry ; fish sandwiches, hush puppies, slaw....

  5. SPAGETTI AND MEATBALLS, GARLIC TOAST AND SALAD

  6. spaghetti.

  7. Chili.

It can be made ahead of time and heated then served over rice and with corn bread or crusty french bread.

    Or,

    Soup -n- Slaw Bar

Make a couple of big pots of different soups and also mayo based and vinergar based bowls of cole slaw.  Serve the hot soup with the chilled slaws.  Recipes for soups and slaws follow.

  8. fish chowder, cornbread, and brownies with icecream

  9. This is almost like spaggetti but it can feed upto 150 people:: Here is what you will need to make this: 15lbs. Hamburger

10lbs. noodles/shells, 3 and a half qts. plus 2/3cup diced celery, 2 and a half qts. puree, 2 and a half qts. of tomato paste, 3 cups of dried onions, 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp. of sugar, 5 1/2 qts + 1/3 cup of water, 2 1/2 lbs. of cheese ground.  Brown meat and onions, drain off fat, cook celery until tender, combine all ingredients to cooked noodles and then sprinkle cheese on top. This recipe is called Johnny Marzetti and it belonged to my grandmother. Plus I have a recipe here to make 100 biscuits, you will need: 4 Quarts flour, 3 cups of dry milk, 1/2 cup of baking powder, 2 tablespoons of salt, 3 cups of shortning.  Mix all ingredients in electic mixer add about 1 1/2 qts. of water, mix and cut into 2 inch squares and bake them at 400' F, in your oven until they are a lite brown.

  10. BBq's are fast and easy

  11. How about Ziti (hamburg or sausage) and salad????

  12. An oven stew is easy and good, and is popular with all ages. The meat doesn't have to be browned first. Typically includes beef, carrots and potatoes, onion, tomato soup and mushroom soup. You should be able to find a recipe online. We used it at church gatherings a few times. It is easy to prepare in large quantities, but you'll have to be sure it is evenly cooked if you are using large pans. Leave plenty of time for baking.

  13. BBQ is always easy, has variety of dishes & it feeds a lot.

Chicken, Beef, Pork, Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Tossed Greens Salad, Pasta Salads, Casseroles, Chips & Dips/Salsa/Queso...hot & cold dishes (prepared the previous day). Possibilities & creativity - endless :-)

  14. You could have a pig roast.

Or bake hams with scalloped potatoes.

You could have a fish and chips night with coleslaw and dessert.

  15. Salisbury Steaks! With mashed potatos! AND VEGGIESSSSSSSS! With CHEEEEEEEEESE!

No, I'm NOT kidding!!!! I am assuming, however, that you've got a biiiig church kitchen to do this in.

A few costco-sized packages of burger, a few envelopes of brown gravy, a big big box of mashed potato flakes, and a few bags of frozen broccoli.

First the steaks : Don't even season it.  Just shape it into patties and sear off or bake until they hold their shape. As soon as they hold their shape well, they can go into a deep rectangular pan two or three deep.

Make the gravy according to direction. Pour over steaks.

Bake the steaks for around an hour.

Make the mashed potatos according to directions, but add a few cupfulls of sour cream and a handful of cheddar cheese.

Steam up the broccoli and drizzle some cheeze whiz over it.

I've done this meal for 30 people in about an hour, in my regular home kitchen.
